Zane stood calmly outside one of the duel monster stores in the mall and slowly glanced over the latest packs he had just bought as a treat for himself. It had barely put a dent in his wallet but he still hoped something good would pop up amongst all the cards he had payed for.
Cybernetic Revolution, Crossroads Of Chaos and The Duelist Genesis. Ten of each, I'd better get some inspiration from these packs.
He went for the Cybernetic Revolution packs first. Glancing at their Silver and Blue cover and gazring in wonder upon the card that stood out infront. Cyber End Dragon, generally one turn kills weren't his style but the Cyber Dragon's were a flexible bunch. he just hoped they wouldn't be so restrited by the formats used by a majority of dueling pro leagues.
The cards that came out of the first pack were pretty ordinary though Zane thought he could find some sort of use for them later on. He grumbled for moment, hoping the rest of the cards wouldn't be like the first or he'd be stuck with a hell of a lot of useless cards.

Zekk was walking by the card shop, a cup of ramen in his hand from which he quickly made in his apartment before he left. Not one for manners, he had a bunch of noodles in his mouth, some halfway out.
SLURP!
That solved that problem he thought to himself, as he sucked the noodles into his mouth like he did with his spaghetti. He stopped at the entrance, wondering if she should go in and see Joshua. He did say to come on by if he wanted too. Shaking his head, he stuck his chopsticks into the cup of ramen to reach for another group of noodles when some large woman bumped right into him, forcing Zekk to spill some of the broth. The woman, not saying anything, continued to walk as if nothing had happenned.
Zekk wasn't going to sand for that.
"Hey, i'm walking here!" he shouted angrily, getting some passer by's to look at his direction. The woman though, didn't seem, or cared, to notice him.
"Prick..." he muttered to himself, staring her before turning around.

Zane turned his head upwards as the squaffle began and wondered exactly what was going on. It appeared as though some ignorant old bat had been the start of it all, obviously ignoring her mistake as most "adults" do now-a-days.
Instantly he felt a sort of kindred spirit between himself and Zekk, if for nothing more than the fact that he'd been a victim of the ignorance of the old as Zane liked to call it. He heard him mutter the word prick and smiled to himself. It was exactly what he would have said in the same situation.
"You okay?" he called out to Zekk.

Zekk paused again before walking, turning around to find a teenager with dark hair and probably only a few years younger than himself. Slurping up some more ramen before depositing it in the nearest trash can, he sighed.
"When all pricks, assholes, bastards, and bitches are ridden from this planet forever, than yeah, I'll be ok," explained Zekk after throwing away his garbage.
Than again he thought to himself. I guess some people classify me under a few of those categories.
Noticing quite a few packs of Duel Monsters cards, he grinned. "So what are you...noobie or collector?" asked Zekk.

Zane couldn't help but smile at Zekk's first comment. It was another sign that he liked this guy, whoever he was they both shared rather similar ideals so far. It was rare that Zane found someone willing to stand up for their ideals. It made him glad to see he wasn't alone in Tokyo, at least not in that sense.
"A true comment, though one that would get you on many a list of hated persons."
He replied rather blankly, and looked down to his card for a moment before hearing Zekk's second comment. Once again he couldn't conceal a smile for it was yet another characteristic of himself that he found mirrored in Zekk. Seemed he wasn't the only smart-ass in Tokyo. He glanced up enough for Zekk to see the tips of his eyes before replying this time in a cool, calm voice that would hve chilled a person with any less self confidence.
"A guy whose been waiting for a long time for something worthwhile to be released. Im in the process of completing my five decks I'll take to the Pri-League when I'm old enough to join. Iv'e got four, the problem is building a worthwhile deck that will actually manage to stand up to the current metagame. What are you? A noobie or a nobody?"

"Noobie or nobody?" repeated Zekk.
Looking up at the sky for a few moments, he grinned. Pfft, the answer is obvious, really he thought to himself. Maintaining his grin, he met Zane's eyes.
"Well, the answer is simple. Nobody. Just like you," answered Zekk. "Afraid it takes more than just having big dreams like that to make you a somebody. And more than just multiple decks, of course."
Wow. This guy is....tolerable thought Zekk, one of the highest things he could ever say about anyone. Very tolerable.

Zane raised an eyebrow, if it weren't for the fact that Zane was fairly sure Zekk looked nothing like himself he would have thought he was talking to a mirror. The responses between both of them would have been perfectly placed in the reverse and in some ways that freaked Zane out a bit, in others it increased his intrigue in this new person.
"Of course, but one can only wait until the chance arrives to become a somebody."
He added a slight smirk to that last comment and moved over towards Zekk, not botthering to extend his hand in greeting.
"Zane Lucioi is my name, born of Hobart, Australia, and you are?"

Yeah but who waits for something to come at them anymore thought Zekk to himself. He didn't bother to say it out loud though.
All he did was acknowledge the man's greeting with a simple one of his own. "Zekk. Zekk Hideki."
Like him, he didn't bother to extend his hand. Was completely not his style. However, he was curious about something.
"So what's an Australian doing in Tokyo. I didn't think the Pro League started this early..."

"Waiting, Tokyo has some of the best dueling facilities in the world and I still have six months or so until i'm eligible to sign up for next year's Pro-League."
He waited for a moment and glanced over some of teh cards he had just pulled out from the booster packs he had just bought.
Cyber Dragon.... That looks intresting...
"So anyway, I'm waiting around until then. Ill enter a few tournaments and build a name for myself before I sign up, before I even think about that I'm going to complete my final deck though. Thats my only goal at the moment. Where are you from anyway Zekk?"

Zekk chuckled.
"This hell hole, of course," answered Zekk with a grim, dark sense of humor. "I was born here....I was raised here....I'll continue to live here....and I'll die here."
As he said this he looked around Tokyo. The bustling city, bright lights, screens of advertisement everywhere. Thew newest model of cars hovering just above the streets, so you couldn't even tell unless you were looking at it from an ant's perspective. This city was truly as alive as any city.
And yet so far off from being alive that it made him smile.
"So tell me Zane...are you good? Good enough, at least?" asked Zekk, pointing to some Duel Monster cards that were exposed.

Zane smirked as if he couldn't believe he was actually being asked such a question. Perhaps he should have shown his tournament record to Zekk but with those two loses in Semi-Finals it perhaps wouldn't cover everything well enough.
Hmmm, perhaps this is an oppurtunity...
He looked towards the Cyber Dragon in his hand and took it out from the rest of the cards before taking out a deck from his side and placing the Cyber Dragon on top before shuffling.
"Oh, Im good Zekk. Perhaps you could help me test this Beta Deck of mine and see out? This was the last card I needed."

Zekk smirked. "That sounds a little insulting, to tell you the truth..." said Zekk back, as he reached into his deck and pulled out the top card.
I hate putting my opponent at a disadvantage. I saw one of his cards he thought to himself. Looking at the card he chose, he grinned, and showed it to Zane: Elemental Hero Bubbleman. I might as well show him one of mine.
"Thinking that you could put a deck you just finished assembling against me. Well..." trailed off Zekk. "Aren't you the cocky bastard?"

Zane riased an eyebrow and smirked at the card he was just shown.
"You run Elemental Hero Bubbleman in a deck and you think he can defeat me?"
He smiled to show there was some sort of friendly joke in that.
"Well then, Do I take that as an acceptance of my challenge?"
